Shipping Container Logistics Dispatcher

A small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) specializing in import and export on Montreal's South Shore (Candiac) is seeking a local shipping container logistics dispatcher for the Montreal area.

Under the supervision of the President and a logistics team member, the successful candidate will coordinate the daily tasks related to the inland transportation logistics of shipping containers and multi-cargo shipments. These tasks are performed in a team of two, working in close collaboration. A high standard of service quality is Nova Containers' top priority. Total customer satisfaction is the goal the company set for itself over 35 years ago.

Tasks and Responsibilities

All tasks listed below are directly related to the logistics of inland transport of maritime containers, as well as the validation of documents for customs, CP, CN, and other terminals at the Port of Montreal. The candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Review files/clients, assess and understand the related tasks and client requirements.
  • Implement the logistics to efficiently execute the necessary and required operations for each file (e.g., requesting rates from our carriers for cargo delivery to a destination, scheduling cargo pickup by enclosed trailer, flatbed, drop deck, or other, contacting the consignee, and following up with clients).
  • Conduct follow-ups and verifications with all parties involved (shipping line, customs broker, freight forwarder, CN, CP, Port of Montreal, carriers, and clients) to ensure the proper execution of tasks from the beginning to the end of the logistics chain.
  • When necessary, effectively manage problematic situations and escalate them to the appropriate person to resolve the issue quickly and maintain a high standard of customer service.
  • Ensure complete customer satisfaction by providing accurate information and addressing specific needs.
  • Finalize the file and inform the client that everything is complete and meets their requirements.
  • Make the necessary notes in the file for invoicing.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in land-based logistics allocation for import/export sea containers and cargo distribution.
  • Bilingual, able to express ideas clearly and compose simple, clear texts.
  • Problem-solving oriented.
  • Honest, with a good memory and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Reliable in knowledge and experience.
  • Effective communicator.
  • Responsible and committed.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Job Details

  • Full-time position, Monday to Friday.
  • On-site only (warehouse in Candiac, QC)
  • 40 hours / week.
  • Location: Candiac, QC.
  • Start date: Position open immediately.
  • RRSP (Registered Retirement Savings Plan) after six months of employment.
  • Salary to be determined based on experience, between $28 and $35.00 / hour.
